Cover art - Promethium

I was asked to design the cover art for a indie PC shooter called Promethium. The game was a digital only release, so art had to work at small scale as icons and banners, but the client also wanted the cover art to evoke the mood of 80s home computer games and the work of people like Oliver Frey. Not sure I quite captured the mood I was aiming for.

As well as working as a square image, the cover art had to work as a both a landscape and portrait proportioned image, so there was a lot of juggling elements at the design stage to look right at all the different crops.

Background elements drawn separately, with different colour schemes, so elements could be taken and used in the game as UI backgrounds.
