Cover art - Acorn A World In Pixels

I was commissioned to design the cover art for a high quality book celebrating the games released for the Acorn BBC Micro and Acorn Electron home computers, to be released in 2020. The book was unofficial, so the brief was to somehow make use of the characters from the most iconic games released on the machine, and the Acorn logo, but without infringing any trademarks or breaching copyright. My big idea was to create a voxel version of the Acorn logo, which seemed to tie in to the 'in pixels' part of the subtitle, even though voxels aren't actually pixels. I then drew new interpretations of some of the most well known characters, basing their look on both in-game pixel graphics and cover art and promotional material for each game.

After completing the cover, the publisher was so pleased with the line-art work-in-progress I'd sent, he requested a version of this to use inside the book itself.

The finished hardback book, in slipcase, looks beautiful. For some reason the publisher replaced my original background with a starfield for the published version. That's what you get for supplying artwork in layers, I guess.

The book was a success, and the publisher asked me to add a new character to the cover art for a second edition of the book for 2021, which was expanded to include some games missed in the first edition.
